Q&A

So, your bottles… Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?

You may have noticed our bottles are a little smaller. We made a conscious decision to do so since that reduces our waste, our shipping carbon footprint, shipping costs for the customer and let’s face it, most nail polish enthusiasts have enough polish to last them a lifetime and will unlikely see the bottom of a bottle anyway. Rest assured that we price our items by how much it costs to make a bottle, so less product also means you pay less.

But what if I like big bottles and I cannot lie?

We are always open to feedback! If you would rather pay a little more for more product, we are open to expanding the size of the bottles in the future and we’re looking for input from our customers. If you’d like your opinion to be weighed in, please email us at support@funnybusinesslacquers.com and let us know.

How does order combining work?

Orders ship around 2 p.m. Central Monday through Friday. We hold on to every order overnight on weekdays and over the weekend if you place an order on Fridays. We will combine any orders that you place in the meantime and you will be reimbursed for extra shipping costs.

“Turn aaaaround, bright eeeeeyes!” Speaking of, what’s the turn-around time?

We’re a one-woman show around here, and I have a full time job, so life does get in the way sometimes but other than that, I usually try to ship orders the next day, taking in consideration the holding time described in the question above. This time frame may be extended around sales and times of increased orders.

What’s the deal with shipping? Where to? How much? When will teleportation be available?

We ship anywhere in the U.S. and orders over $54 ship free! All orders are shipped via USPS with tracking info provided. Shipping costs for orders under $54 are calculated by weight. We promise one of Poubelle's long-term career goals is to nail (pun intended) down teleporting your order to you with a wiggle of his lil raccoon tail, and our gremlins (customers) will be the first test group when he reaches the testing phase.

Noticed you said you ship to the U.S. only...what's Poubelle's problem with shipping outside of America?

No problem whatsoever, except that for the polishes, we need to take a fancy (and costly) training to be licensed to ship hazardous material using other shipping services that ship internationally like UPS or FedEx. We are also looking into stockists! Rest assured, we are working on bringing Poubelle's face to all seven continents eventually.
We are, however, able to ship internationally things that are not considered hazmat, such as our 3D prints, merch and cuticle oil.

What’s the shiny silver ball at the bottom of my bottle?

We include two stainless steel agitator balls in every polish. They make it easier to shake the polish when it settles or you need to thin it.

Thinning it? Are you fat-shaming my polish?

Polish naturally thickens with time, especially if a bottle is half used. What happens is, the more usage, the more air there is in the bottle, and the easier it makes for it to evaporate. What normally evaporates are the acetates, two of the main ingredients in our formula. But don’t worry! Your polish is perfectly salvageable if it gets thick. All you need to do is to thin it.

How do I thin it?

By adding a few drops of thinner at a time and shaking your bottle and checking and repeating the process up until it reaches the desired consistency. You may need a lot more than you think, so keep going even if it doesn’t look like it made a difference in the first few times. I have a technique to gauge how much thinner I need to add that will be shown in a future video so keep an eye out on our socials. We sell thinner that is compatible with our formula and the formula of many other indie brands. You can check the compatibility with your other polishes by looking at the ingredients of said polish. If the two main ingredients in your polish are ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, you’re good to go.

And if you’re using non-Funny Business thinner, make sure you’re using a thinner which only contains ethyl acetate and butyl acetate and NEVER add thinners with heptane to our glitters or flakie formulas. Heptane will destroy them. But long story short, never throw away perfectly good polish or top coat because it’s thick, just add some thinner and they’ll be good to go again.

Ok all of this is cool but… How do you pack?

We are anxious people here and this is footage of us packing our orders.

But we try to keep it environmentally friendly so our boxes are fully recyclable as well as we use honeycomb paper to keep your polishes safe.

Oh no… Now you made me think about it. What if one bottle DOES break?

We’ll ship you a new one or refund you the cost, your choice. Just let us know! FYI, we need pictures of the package, including the shipping box. Not because we don’t believe you, but just because we need those to file for shipping insurance.

Why did you give me a large toothpick?

I’m Brazilian, as I have mentioned a Brazilion times (got it, got it?), and it’s very common to use those to clean up your manicure in Brazil. So I’ve made it my personal mission to bring this custom here! They’re called orange sticks or orange wood sticks — the name comes from the fact they were originally made from wood from orange trees. There’s a few uses for them, you can use the flat end to push your cuticles (just make sure to oil your cuticles first so they’re nice and bendy) and the pointy end can be used for cleanup while you’re doing your manicure (run it along the sides of your nails and that will clean any messes as well as fix any flooding. For bad flooding, I sometimes use the flat end and push the flooded part towards the skin and then clean it) as well as after you’re done. To use it for cleanup after you’re done, dip the pointy end in acetone (or the remover of your choice), then twirl it around in a cotton ball. It will look like a little torch once you’re done. Dip that in acetone or remover again and use that to clean any messes you may have made on your skin. Once you’re done, pull the cotton away from the orange stick and it’s good to be reused.  I find this method a lot easier to handle than the brush people use here in the US and better if you’re not very coordinated or don’t have steady hands.

You can watch this tutorial here.

What kind of brushes do you use?

Paddle! But you’ll also get a flat brush for free (my bottles already come with the flat brush and I change them to paddle, so I’m giving those away to the customers).
